Sweet little baby, Lauren Williams, was unable to do anything for herself at just 18-days old. Her 22-year old mother, Jaila Thomas, apparently woke at 6 a.m. after a night of drinking to find her infant deceased in the bathtub. The mother was apparently too inebriated to keep her daughter safe. On completion of a preliminary investigation, the police arrested and charged the baby’s mother for involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse.
Safety and Baby Health Checks Are Imperative
Negligence of an infant is not acceptable. What a one-month-baby can do in the bath is so limited, and in this case, it is essentially nothing. An infant cannot take care of themselves, it’s a parent or guardians’ responsibility to do it for them.
Common sense is needed when raising a child and maintaining baby health checks. No one wants their child to get hurt, and they need to ensure that their child’s safety is a priority. This mother put her own desires first and the consequences were devastating. Infants are not easy. They need everything done for them such as feeding, changing, and dressing. What a one-month baby can do in the bath is considered minimal at best.
Consequences
Jaila Williams’s neglect of her infant led to the loss of her child and certain imprisonment, all because she was selfish and failed to do baby health checks on her tiny daughter. But it also led to the grief for the rest of the family. Lauren Williams’s funeral is being held by a local funeral home that is covering all the costs. For the family of this child that is a huge financial burden lifted. Actions always have consequences, and this poor family has to now live with the result of those actions.
