Some questions are hard to ask because they make people feel uncomfortable or awkward even when they shouldn’t. Dr. Jagruti Sanghvi a Newborn and Child Specialist gives very helpful information concerning bathing an infant, especially regarding the genital area.

All babies need their diaper changed frequently to ensure the diaper area doesn’t develop a rash of any kind. Dr. Sanghvi encourages that if an infant does get a rash to ensure getting a rash cream to clear it up quickly. Newborn baby health care can be intimidating, confusing and scary at times so the more reliable information we have, the better.

Male and Female Newborn Baby Health Care Differences

Cleaning an infant’s genitals thoroughly and correctly is important. Dr. Sanghvi tells us that a female infant may experience some whitish discharge or reddish discharge called pseudo-menses, neither of which is of any concern. Continue to bathe the infant normally and changing their diaper frequently.

Dr. Sanghvi tells us with a male infant when cleaning their genitals to never forcefully retract the foreskin, this is because for the first year or two of life it will sometimes remain attached. For both male and female infants baby health is important, and knowing how to keep them clean ensures a healthier baby.
