The real benefits of baby massage are being shown by Dr. Shefali Chheda, a Doctor of Pediatrics. Recently, baby massages are said to help with a large range of baby health problems. Dr. Chheda expertly shows two mothers with their own infants how to correctly massage and goes into how this will benefit the infant.
Skin-to-skin contact with a parent is widely known to help with bonding and with mothers, it is also known to help with nursing. The full benefits of baby massage though are not as widely known. Dr. Chheda recommends massaging from the head down to ensure nothing is missed. Each area massaged has a benefit, even if it simply helps calm the infant.
Massage Benefits
Baby health problems occur, that is a fact. However, learning ways that could prevent some of the health problems is key. Dr. Chheda tells some of the real benefits to a baby massage are preventing infection by massaging the neck. Massaging the head helps with cradle cap, but requires a gentle touch due to an infant’s soft spot. Massaging the stomach allows for gas to move easier and massaging the face helps with clogged tear ducts.
