In another tragic occurrence of a baby being left unattended in the bathtub, little 9-month-old Cameron Davis passed away just five days before Christmas. Despite heroic efforts to save his life using advice on having a baby seemingly deceased, emergency personnel were unable to revive the baby. The Hobe Sound, Florida, parents are being investigated by the sheriff’s department and the state district attorney’s office.
Mother Didn’t Follow Advice on Having a Baby in the Bathtub
It’s a horrible thing to go through, but the boy’s mother, Heather Clifford, age 29, apparently forgot to follow vital information provided by baby advice websites on bathing a baby. She put her son in the water and then left him. She told the police that she left the child for about 20 minutes and fell asleep. When she returned she found him unresponsive and blue, then called 911.

The baby’s father, Shawn Davis, age 30, was given instructions over the phone by 911 dispatchers and he performed CPR until emergency personnel arrived at the home. They immediately followed emergency advice on having a baby that is unresponsive and rushed Cameron to Martin Memorial South hospital where he was pronounced dead. The 911 call came in at around 11:30 on Friday morning, December 20, 2019.
Sheriff’s Office Investigating Baby’s Death As Suspicious
Sheriff William Snyder of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported that the reason the mother disregarded advice on having a baby in the bathtub and left the boy unattended is unclear. The boy’s father, Shawn Davis, was also home, but asleep. Sheriff Snyder stated that the mother found the boy face down in the bathtub. It is a heartbreaking mistake that Heather Clifford made by not keeping in mind the baby health problems and bathing basics to follow when putting her baby boy in the tub.

After talking with the parents and conducting an investigation into the incident, the state attorney general’s office will determine whether to charge either of the parent’s in the boy’s death.
Not the First Time Sheriffs Have Been to the Home
Unfortunately, the home is no stranger to the deputies in the sheriff’s department as they have visited in the past for a domestic dispute, a suspicious incident and to aid the Department of Children and Families for a nonspecified reason. Both Davis and Clifford have prior arrests for probation violations and battery, plus individual infringements.
Shawn Davis and Heather Clifford also have two other children who were in the home. Taking precautions because of advice on having a baby in possible danger, they have now been removed and are in the custody of the Department of Children and Families in Martin County. The other children are aged two and three-years-old.

A neighbor of the family told reporters that she and her husband had reported the parents to child welfare services in the past. They had seen the children walking around outside the home hardly wearing any clothing while the parents were inside asleep. Another neighbor said she felt sorry for the couple and thought they were nice, but just very young and struggling to get by.
