Nineteen-year-old Yenci Lopez had been the primary childcare provider for her sister’s two children, a 7-year-old and a 2-year-old. However, on January 6, 2020, she says she made a terrible mistake by not taking baby health checks and bathing precautions when she put her 2-year-old nephew into the bathtub.

Lopez Now In Jail
The Hempstead, New Jersey woman allegedly put the child in the tub of scalding hot water and walked away as he screamed. She later took him to a nearby birthday party where partygoers noticed the child’s injuries as his skin continued to blister. People at the party inquired about baby health checks and bathing procedures, seeing the child was injured. Court records show that the little boy suffered burns over 20% of his body and was covered with blisters, boils, and charred skin.
Ms. Lopez has been charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child and reckless assault of a child and is being held on $50,000 bail. Her lawyer has said that she is extremely remorseful and it was a horrible accident.
