Amy’s Pregnancy Complications And Premature Baby Care
Amy Cawley and her partner Alex Ferris from Verwood in England were expecting a baby when some complications were discovered with the pregnancy. Amy has an 8-year-old daughter, Summer, while Alex has a 4-year-old from a previous relationship. Amy had been noticing reduced movement from her baby, which led to her pregnancy being monitored carefully. When she was 34-weeks pregnant, Amy Cawley became worried that she hadn’t felt any sort of movement by her baby.

Baby Darcie Delivered by Emergency C-section
When Amy noticed this she quickly rushed to have her pregnancy checked. The scans indicated an underweight baby, but that was overlooked by the physicians. When Amy went to Poole Hospital in Dorset, the scans showed even more complications as the baby’s heart rate was too low and it was determined that the baby was at risk. The doctors needed to perform an emergency C-section. By the time Alex arrived at the hospital, Amy was already undergoing surgery. She had her baby at 4 lb. 7oz., on December 9th, 2019. The arms were covered with birthmark-like lesions. They also had an unusual discoloration.
The baby was taken to a specialist hospital in Hampshire where the lesions would be operated upon by well-equipped experts and for premature baby care. It was also discovered through an MRI scan that young Darcie – Amy’s newborn – had suffered a stroke while she was in the womb. Results showed she had a blood clot in her shoulder which had caused the stroke. Her arms were in bad condition due to the lack of blood supply, which had been cut off by the clot. She had to undergo six operations in an attempt to restore the circulation of blood to her limbs that had started to rot due to the blood clot. She also had to be under intensive premature baby care.

When Her Fingers Fell Off
The couple was in total terror when some of Darcie’s fingers fell off while she was getting bathed. There is no evidence this could have been prevented even with the right baby health information on bathing that would have been suited for Darcie. But it certainly wouldn’t make things better to have any unwanted baby advice on bathing. She has gone through a lot of challenges, not just from birth, but even while she was still in the womb. Apart from the intensive premature baby care, she was receiving, Darcie had spent six weeks in the hospital following her birth due to the surgeries and operations that had to be carried out on her. Doctors had been aware of the deteriorating condition but opted for as much natural healing as possible rather than amputation. It seemed like all the odds were against her survival even with her parents’ devotion to the premature baby care procedures.

Darcie’s Condition Now And Subsequent Premature Baby Care
The couple have set up a GoFundMe account to help out with the expenses of the surgeries and hospital sessions. Her parents are optimistic about her future. Amy expresses that the whole family, including her 8-year-old daughter and Alex’s 4-year-old daughter, are just relived Darcie is alive. Although the parents expressed their sadness concerning the stigma she might face, they were also happy she is a survivor.
